Muscat –

Apollo Hospital Muscat added another feather to its cap as Dr Florian H H Brill issued the certificate of ICAP (Infection Control Accreditation Program) last week.

This will make Apollo Hospital Muscat, the first ICAP accredited hospital in Oman.

The ICAP certification process includes stringent audit process and protocol implementation. This is a unique certification that focuses on infection prevention and control factors of a hospital.

The German protocols devised by Dr Brill + Partner GmbH Institute for Hygiene and Microbiology emphasise the five essentials of hygiene: Personal hygiene including hand hygiene, general hygiene of the hospital environment, management of high risk areas including OT, ICU, isolation rooms, central sterile supply department, surveillance and antimicrobial stewardship to monitor and steer the clinical performance, including management team into the infection prevention and control programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Brill, owner and managing director of Dr Brill Group said, “The way forward in healthcare is to focus on patient safety and infection prevention. We made two visits and had one intensive audit at the point of care to look at Apollo Hospital Muscat. The team was efficient and their commitment is outstanding. We are delighted to see Apollo Hospital Muscat go through the audit process and successfully get ICAP certified.

“On behalf of Dr Brill Group, Germany, I congratulate V T Saileswaran, managing director, Apollo Hospital Muscat and his team for this achievement. It shows their commitment to patient safety in Oman.”

Saileswaran received the certificate of accreditation.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, “I was looking at having a credible agency to audit us and suggest the best of infection control protocols. When it comes to patients at Apollo, we always want to give the best.”

Saileswaran also announced the opening of new clinics in Apollo Hospital Muscat and this includes paediatric, urology, reproductive medicine and paediatric cardiology.

With this accreditation on hygiene and infection control, Apollo Muscat is all geared to be super speciality and subspeciality provider in the sultanate, said Saileswaran.
