Dr Jayant K Jhala did his under graduation MBBS from Nair Hospital, Mumbai. His postgraduate studies were in Mumbai at Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Science, where he earned and cultivated his interest in Surgical Gastroenterology and Hepatobiliary Science with guidance of teacher Dr Shrikande & guide as Dr AG Nande in GI. Dr A G Nande was his guide in laparoscopic surgery and endoscopy, who was trained by the world-famous Dr Nib Soehendra, Germany. He developed interest in advance minimal invasive gastrointestinal, HPB & Laparoscopic Surgery.

He worked at Jaslok Hospital, then moved to K E M Hospital, Seth G S Medical College, Mumbai as senior clinical fellow in the department of Surgical Gastroenterology and Laparoscopy. He worked with a team of skilled surgeons in HPB-GI and Transplant, where they had a dedicated ultra-modern ICU and operating room to handle the large number of patients. In these instances, he gained immense experience from the variety of cases presented.

During his tenure as Sr. Clinical Fellow, he published various papers in national and international journals and started private practice. After which he completed 2 years fellowship.

During his private practice he discovered the need to address issues related to the science of transplantation of human organs like liver, pancreas and kidney.

He was selected for a fellowship in advanced hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation at Medanta, The Medicity, with the aim of learning higher standards of medicine and transplantation science. It was the only high-volume liver transplant center in India that performed a minimum of 30 living donor liver transplants per month in addition to hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgeries, where patient results were at par with those from the world's leading centers. 

At medcity he gained vast experience in treating both domestic and international patients in the field of HPB & Transplantation. He has witnessed some of the rare procedures and complex surgeries during his tenure, like, Swap, Domino, has assisted CABG with liver transplant, and both with kidney and liver transplant etc.

In addition to treating Indian patients, he has treated international patients from countries such as Uganda, Africa, Russia, Burma, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, at Medicity.

He has experience in the first of its kind Robotic donor left lobe hepatectomy where he was involved as 1st Assistant Surgeon. In addition, he has learned the basics of Robotic Surgery and assisted in cases of hepatobiliary by Robotic surgery. He was one of the surgeons who assisted with the first robotic left lobectomy performed for liver cancer in India.

His main areas of interest are Minimal Access Gastrointestinal Surgeries, Robotics & Transplantation. 

He has also conducted various camps and public awareness lectures on the basis of Medical Tourism in African nations like Nirobi and Tanzania

In GCC he is currently with Apollo Hospital, Sultanate of Oman. Previously he was with Saudi Moh And Trauma Centre from 2018-19 as Senior Specialist followed by Ministry of Health Oman, Sohar from 2020 to 2022 as Senior Specialist.
